Department of Children & Family Services

The Department of Children and Family Services is best known for its child protection services. The goal of the Department's child protection program is outlined in the state's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. The Department also places children in foster care due to abuse, neglect or dependency. When it is determined that it is not safe for the children to return home, DCFS will help the children find a new home through adoption. DCFS also provides family maintenance day care services along with regulating and licensing day care centers, homes, group homes, and day care agencies.
